My Comments to the Jeffco Board of Commissioners

After waiting over three hours, several parents expressed their deep disappointment with Jefferson County Public Schools’ continued defiance of basic science as they plan to muzzle 3-11-year-olds this coming school year. One commenting parent – in a disgusting act of manipulation – put her 7-year-old on the virtual meeting to argue for universal masking before identifying herself and her husband as public health bureaucrats. Claiming her children were “long haulers” who’ve had fevers “all year,” she insisted that her family has been doing everything they were supposed to do (completely missing the irony that the mitigations she wanted to force on everyone clearly didn’t work for her).

Every other comment was supportive of parental freedom, and one fired-up father brilliantly excoriated the Board for continuing to get rolled by Dawn Comstock and her selective “data,” telling them of at least three families he personally knows that are joining us in pulling our kids from this embarrassing government institution.

Prior to this, I commented this:

Jeffco parents are watching school districts around the country send children back to school normally. By normally, I mean with parent choice and a clear appreciation for the virtually non-existent risk presented to school children from the novel coronavirus. And yet, our public health officials are acting as if there is a reason to continue denying Jeffco children the normal educational experience offered to millions of other children around the country.

My son came home from middle school every single day and told me, “Dad, I have no friends at school. I can’t get to know anyone. My head hurts. When I complain about it at school, teachers tell me I have to do what I’m told and keep my mask on, and other kids tell me I’m going to kill grandma if I don’t keep it on.”

There is simply no data indicating that school districts that returned to normal last year experienced any different results from those who stayed masked, contact traced, or even stayed home. This virus simply presents no statistical risk to any healthy child, and their education cannot continue to be held hostage to the novel science, novel epidemiological definitions, and novel government authority our officials have continued to perpetuate.

Dr. Comstock and JCPH continue to be committed to the idea that this novel virus defies almost everything previously known and understood about the spread, risk, and relative immunity from respiratory viruses. Rather, the establishment of an entirely novel framework concerning this virus has become the pretext for an entirely novel relationship between government institutions and the citizens whose rights they are sworn to uphold. At primary issue is the broad authority over individual health decisions JCPH has usurped for itself, evidenced by their complete denial of the simple and scientific truth that the virus does not present any risk to children and their willingness to continue to de-person our children and radically alter the interpersonal nature of in-person and communal learning.

Parents will have no choice but to remove their children from Jeffco schools, where remaining children will be taught that their personal medical decisions are not their own – their body is not their own. Our kids can read and understand the coronavirus data, too, and they can understand that government bureaucrats are apparently more concerned with perpetuating a clearly false narrative that protects government power at the expense of the education of themselves and their friends.

I am asking again for Jefferson County to not allow residents who should be free to return to normality be characterized as threatening or wrong for insisting on normal freedoms and to stop acting under the notion that it is normal for health officials to have direct authority over the personal health decisions of the citizenry.

We cannot trust this county and its elitist foot soldier Dawn Comstock. What a sham and an embarrassment.
