Over 400 Jeffco Teachers and Staff Have the Union to Thank for Losing Their Jobs

Jefferson County Public Schools leadership announced last week that they had recommended the closure of 16 elementary schools due to declining enrollment. The district blamed the decline on birth rate drops, but data analysis by Jeffco School Board Director Susan Miller paints a very different story.

Miller offers data demonstrating that while charter and option schools have increased enrollment despite the effects of COVID shutdowns, neighborhood schools have dropped over 11,000 students since 2012. Jeffco schools have suffered a net loss of over 7,000 students since 2012, and 799 of those lost can be attributed to the declining birth rates (calculated by looking at enrollment in first grade).

With a relatively small percentage of enrollment decline traceable to the district’s claimed reason, we are left with declining performance, damaging and unjustifiable lockdown policies, and parent-eliminating wokeness. Jeffco Schools unapologetically pushes the LGBTQ agenda, openly shilling for organizations that recommend parents come out to their kids’ school.

All of these things are actively prioritized by the Colorado Education Association and the National Education Association. Both actively campaigned for remote learning, masks, and woke indoctrination without parental knowledge, then had the audacity to demand more money for teachers due to “COVID burnout.”

Instead, the policies they promoted resulted in parents removing their children from Jeffco, and informed parents refusing to enroll their kids. Now Jeffco is recommending the layoff of hundreds of employees and blaming birthrate decline when the blame lies squarely with the union and the district’s capitulation to its anti-student, liberal agenda.
