Dominion Software Undermines Colorado Election Results

Jefferson County Republicans are refusing to certify election results before a bipartisan audit of the voting. And they have good reasons.

Dominion in Colorado: Enforcing the requirements of a 2009 law that gives him the authority to approve purchases of new voting systems, then-Secretary of State Wayne Williams mandated that all Colorado counties transition to a single vendor (of his choosing) for voting machines – Dominion Voting Systems – at a price tag of 9 million dollars to be paid by Colorado counties. Counties had piloted four different vendors (Dominion, Hart, Clear Ballot, and ES&S), but ultimately Dominion was chosen even though it had a higher price tag than other vendors.

Some county commissioners questioned why counties couldn’t pick their own vendors since counties were required to pick up the cost, but ultimately only Garfield and Douglas counties did not transition to Dominion systems by 2017. This decision “baffled” Jefferson County Commissioner Libby Szabo, who wisely noted that forcing one vendor onto Colorado counties created a monopoly where the vendor could charge any price they wanted for machines, service, and updates.

A single-vendor monopoly likewise creates conditions that are ripe for widespread error or fraud.
