Government Thrives on COVID Misinformation
5 min readI was flabbergasted. On a conference call, I reminded participants that once someone has had COVID-19 and recovered, they are not going to get COVID-19 again, at least for some time. As is consistent with everything known about viral infection, the effect of having the illness and defeating it is the presence of antibodies against the virus – the same result generated by receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. Yet I was basically laughed off the call – as if everyone knows that recovering from verified COVID-19 doesn’t make a person less susceptible to getting COVID-19 again. What gives?
In our present environment of rampant COVID-19 disinformation (much of which is coming from “official” sources), we must look to evidence (what the term science used to refer to) to know what to believe. A quick reminder: science is not the term for a consensus of “experts.” Science asks, what does the data show?
As of the end of February 2021, there were around 60 cases of supposed COVID-19 reinfection. Globally. This is out of approximately 112 million recorded COVID-19 cases worldwide. Let that sink in before we do the actual math. With all of the scare-mongering coming out of government and media, 60 is all they could find who supposedly got COVID-19 again after recovering from it. Of course, we don’t know the condition of these people, what testing protocol was used, and we know that the PCR test is infamous for false positives – indicating that the first or second “infection” attributed to these patients is very likely to be false. Even assuming both the initial infections and the reinfections are legitimate, this presents a .0000536% chance of a COVID-19 recovered person developing COVID-19 again. Statistically, a person is much more likely to die in a car wreck or of cancer. Yet people seem to believe recovering from COVID-19 doesn’t lower a person’s risk!
The benefit of recovering from COVID-19 is generally the same as the benefit of getting a vaccine – a patient’s immune system develops antibodies to the virus. Now when the virus enters their system their immune system recognizes it and defeats it before an infection can take root. This is standard germ theory – demonstrated with data. This is actual science. If recovery doesn’t lower the risk of getting sick again, then the vaccine doesn’t lower the risk of getting sick. It’s that simple. Yet the CDC now tells us that those who are vaccinated do not get sick or transmit the virus. For the same exact reason, those who have recovered from COVID-19 also do not get sick again or transmit the virus.
A Market Watch article in February discussing reinfection demonstrates the disinformative tactic. From the article:
There are about 60 confirmed cases of reinfection globally. That’s far less than 1% of the 112 million coronavirus cases reported around the world.Â
Notice how the description of the 60 cases being “far less than 1%” – while technically accurate – creates an impression of a much bigger problem with reinfection than what is true. Not only are the 60 cases far less than 1% of 112 million, it is 18,000 times less than the cited one percent! Characterizing them as “far less” than one percent of the cases doesn’t even come close to describing the near impossibility of reinfection!
The dirty little secret is that governments knew virtually nothing about COVID-19 when it first arrived on the scene. We need not look any further than supposed “expert” Anthony Fauci and the multitude of times he laughably contradicted himself as he proclaimed how it was and government officials dutifully obeyed as if his blatant contradictions didn’t matter. The truth is his contradictions didn’t matter as long as the people obeyed and continued to assume the government knew best. The illusion of expertise must be maintained at all costs.
Rewind the clock a year and most of us can still remember two weeks to flatten the curve. The premise of this course of action was simple: We knew that everyone would come into contact with this new virus eventually – with significant variance in severity of infection – but we needed these inevitable infections to take longer to happen so that those who were bound to have more severe reactions did not all need medical care at the same time. We didn’t want hospitals to be overwhelmed by the guaranteed spread of the virus. Governments rushed to procure expensive ventilators (prior to determining the ventilator was a terrible idea), and we resigned ourselves to the fact that everyone would have their day with the virus and we needed to be ready for those who were destined to have more severe reactions.
Once it became clear that hospitals were not going to be overwhelmed (especially since we forbid elective surgeries and stood up expensive makeshift hospitals like the patient-less Convention Center debacle), the government narrative shifted from slowing the spread (flattening the curve) to stopping the spread. Yes, now government experts were going to perform the miracle of stopping the spread of a novel, airborne respiratory virus – a feat never before accomplished in the history of mankind. All it would take was for the people to be unquestioningly compliant. It didn’t matter how much the guidance or official understanding of the pandemic changed, any questioning of the official narrative was tantamount to being complicit in any death that could possibly be attributed to the novel virus.
Rather than admit that they didn’t know what they were talking about, government officials and their stooges in media pivoted to damage control. They manipulated data to continue public fear, changed their guidance to reflect a worst-case scenario, and rewrote the basics of germ theory itself to keep the public scared and confused.
And so we return to my meeting, where the basic truths of germ theory, herd immunity, and COVID recoveries being safe from the virus (easily confirmed by the data) was seen as laughably conspiratorial and the belief that an immune system that defeats COVID-19 is no safer from the virus than it was before (this includes vaccinated people) is accepted as “science.”
If recovering from the disease (or being vaccinated) doesn’t protect a person from simply getting COVID-19 again, there is simply no reason to not just take our chances. Because the only other option is to have our freedoms forever subservient to the ignoramuses in government posing as experts. These people think it is their place to tell Americans how to celebrate the holidays, and they have a firm track record of getting it wrong over and over. We should stop listening to them.

How people have come to worship government in such astonishing numbers after decades of one governmental debacle after another is a complete mystery.
