Professor John Eastman Suing CU Bouder for Violating His Freedom of Speech

A visiting conservative professor and constitutional scholar is suing the University of Colorado for $2 million in damages related to being fired from his contracted position for what he claims are his political positions and exercise of his free speech.

Eastman recently made waves for his position that Kamala Harris is constitutionally ineligible to be the vice president because she is not a natural-born citizen. The 14th amendment reads in part that, “all persons born…in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens,” and professor Eastman contends that because neither of Harris’ parents were citizens at the time of her birth in 1964 she was not fully subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, and was therefore not a natural-born citizen.

This minority opinion (the validity of which we won’t discuss here), plus Eastman’s work representing Donald Trump in election challenges and his appearance in Washington on January 6th led to his contracted classes being canceled and the school prohibiting him from acting in his assigned outreach role for the Benson Center – the school’s center for the study of Western civilization.

Eastman holds to the position that widespread election fraud occurred in 2020, which there is ample evidence to support.

It comes as no surprise that CU Boulder caved to the liberal cancel mob. The university admitted as much in their response, claiming they “appropriately relieved [Eastman] from performing outreach functions on behalf of the Benson Center, because his continued performance of those duties would likely cause disruption and harm to the center.”
